AI Transcript provided by KivyWhisper¶
Hello and welcome to Kivy School! So this is just a quick little game made with Kivy Reloader. It's 100 Dogs in India and it's basically a point and click game. Dogs in India proves that you can get approved on Steam. So this is fully approved. It's on Steam. It's a full and complete Kivy game. It even has Steamworks integration through SteamworksPy. The most important part why you need Steamworks integration is because I wanted achievements for this game. Because one important thing about Steam is people like achievement hunting. And in this game, because there's 100 dogs, you can have 100 achievements basically. So people really like getting these achievements. And if we just press play, let's play. And then we can go and here's the image of basically different locations in India. And as you can see, here there's going to be dogs. And if we click on these dogs right here, the achievement will be shown. I found Balla.
Let's check like this dog, right? I found Erhar. And you can find a lot of different dogs, a lot of different dogs and they become a lot of different achievements. And you can see even here, there's a dog here. What is it going to be? It's Aydi. So that's one important part about Dogs in India. Another one is that, I don't know if you noticed it, let me go back. Let me increase the volume. Actually, let's increase the volume here. Increase the volume here. This works on all platforms. It works on Windows. It works on Mac and Linux. And so that was really important.
That's another good part about Kivy is because it's cross-platform. It will work on all three platforms. And if you see here, the accuracy is pixel perfect. So if I go like this, I select them, but then I deselect them. And then if you hover over, you can even see the name of the dogs. So I can go back here. Name of the dog. Name of the dog. Like this. This is the name of the dog.
Now another important part is if you see me going back and forth, that's because there's also a database. So I've incorporated a database into this game. So that's another important thing. It's both to keep track of like me finding these dogs and also for the settings.
If you go back to the settings page, you can see there's languages. They can change the language. These were just AI translated. You have to disclose that to Steam. But if you go back to English, it'll be right here. It will go. This changes the from full screen to windowed. And then here you can check the right here. You can check basically the brightness of the game. Right. Then if you go back, it will even darken it because it's a white screen. Sometimes people want just a darker screen so it doesn't blind their eyes. So here I found another dog. It's Madra. You go back, back to the settings. And then even here, the audio is basically changed. And as you noticed, I'll click this.
This is proof that it's Kivy. You should know this is the pop-up widget. So this is a Kivy game. And here it's just to delete the progress just to restart game. And all this does is when I click this, I'm not going to click it, but it resets your progress and all the dogs. And if you found them all, so it will just reset them all to you found zero dog or do not restart game. So that's the proof on why this is Kivy. And so because the other game, which is the original inspiration was a hundred cats in like Italy. And that is made in Godot, but this is made in Kivy. Another important thing about dogs in India is this is a float layout. And one important thing too is there's W-A-S-D. So W-D-S-A.
So there's all panning, right? And if you notice, this is very similar to games like RimWorld where RimWorld, you have like this screen. I had a problem where this image would like zoom out and you would see like the black border beyond the image. So I noticed while working on this game that RimWorld has that problem too, but people are like, okay with it. It's not really a bug. So very interesting. But this is how you would make like a RimWorld style game where you would just have like a canvas and interact with elements and basically manipulate your like database in the background. Right? So that was really interesting.
Another thing too is there's pan and zoom. So you can pan and zoom on this image, right? So that's important too, because you want to see the dogs, right? Sometimes the dogs are like too basically small to be found. And it's good to have a large image like this, especially to hide the 100 dogs. Or you can go like this and click these guys, right? And yeah, so that's pretty much it. This is just a quick game.
I went through the whole process and I'll be honest, it's a lot easier to get to Steam than to go through Google Play Store, but it is expensive. It's currently 100 USD just to get on Steam. Whereas on Google Play, you have to get like 20 testing accounts for like two weeks, which you basically have to pay like 100. So it's basically the same. But I think one last thing I want to say is that like Steam really promotes your game, really promotes your game over something like Google. So Google, they will just take your money to list on the store and they'll take everything. But for the advertisement, you basically have to do everything on your own. But with Steam, my suspicion is that the $100 initial investment you make, they put it back in terms of like promoting ads on their own platform. So it's like technically you pay like 100 bucks for like using their Steam servers.
And like basically part of that 100 bucks is going to ads and also they refund you if you make 100. So that's another thing too. Like I think out of all the platforms I've tried, I've tried Kickstarter, I've tried YouTube, I've tried Twitch. I think the only platform that really rewarded you is Steam, especially in terms of like metrics and like doing stuff (advertisements). Oh, and I've also tried Udemy. I think Steam is the only one that if you put in the money, they will really try and find your audience. So that's another really good thing. Thank you for watching. This has been Kivy School. Just a quick game released on Steam, 100 Dogs in India. So this has been Kivy School. Thank you for watching.
